In Korea and China, an year includes 24 cycles depending on Sun's movement. The 22nd of the 24 is celebrated due to the shortest time of daylight and the longest night of the year. In Korea, we call Dong Ji, Winter Solstice, 동지. Usually it's December 20-23.
From older times, Koreans believed that eating porridge made by red bean will defeat evil spirits because the color of red bean, red, will beat the spirits. Since then, Koreans celebrate Dong Ji eating the porridge, Pat-Juk, 팥죽.
This year Dong Ji was Dec. 21st, and my mom made me Pat-Juk!
Hope every bad luck will go away! :)
